Where did this open space go ?

Karachi is fast running out of space, mainly grounds, parks etc. and turning into an oven of heat, dust and smoke. Corrupt builders with the help of political masters and gov. officials are eating it like anything. I have been posting for a long time on this unplanned (call it evil planned) development that has no head, no toe and definitely no brain. Last week I went to Saddar and found this open space [ZOOM OUT view ] (that might have been for a ground or park for local population) has disappeared. I heard that empress market is being shifted here. Well if this transfer is done in proper way, fine. Else i see no sense in cleaning EM and making life hell for this locality. The sewerage, water, electricity and other problems that will emanate from this shift will start showing its ugly head in coming years. Anyone, any idea on this?

    @ MB,

    Agreed with you..
aray bahiyo cable or internet hay na, cable per do hours spend kero or game kerny ho tu PC per baith jao, football, hocky, cricket seb hay na phir grounds kis kay leye ??? huh !!!!

Any for reality we need some grounds to play, so our youth and us can tie there own shoes by themselves, without physical games our bodies will become just like chineese or bombay people, I gave example of China and India mombay because these are fully congusted, suffocated, trashed, dirty, with lots of heat in it and lack of natural life areas.

We need more grounds to play and exercise/walk.

@ wkhang, I fully agree with you, we need playgrounds for our youth and coming generation. But we also need little green zones in around our city, be it in shape of parks or green belts. These green belts are necessary to fight air pollution, plus it will also play part in beautification of our city.

When I was in school, then PM Mr. Junejo announced a scheme of planting one tree by every school going kid, I too planted a tree near Bank quarters in North Nazimabad Block ‘B’, its still there even after so many years. I think we all should do this.

The play ground exist at the end of the BELT, where the double road ends when heading towards lines area. the whole belt have 4 sections:

    1. A lines area welfare dipensary to be managed by SINDH Govt social security (planned)
    2. An Eidgah (planned)
    3. The lines area phone exchange (exisiting)
    4. The market (now builtup haphazard withount any infrastructer) attached to 1000 sq yd park plot.

Above details are available on a lay out plan at Project Director Lines Area Development Scheme.

    – Trees I love planting trees and I love see them grow – I plant Neem Tree always it disinfects environment and gives cool shadow in highest temperatures.

TZAIDI – North Nazimabad (KDA Scheme 2) is Greenst of the localities in Karachi even today :)

Get Life and start Growing Trees, Green Areas….

when we talk of eating up of play grounds, parks, green areas, what comes to mind? of course criminal gang called MQM.

I would be brief here as some of you have a habit of bawling.

I too planted a tree near Bank quarters in North Nazimabad Block ‘B’

You planted a tree while beloved gang chopped down many in the same block you mentioned.Besides a public basket ball court(ground) was sequestered from the residents of the area and ‘allotted’ to developer of 15 story luxury apartments complex on encroached railway land.

Across the street in Block A a road island(green area/park) have been ‘allotted’ to a fast food chain (Pizza hut) and huge structure have been erected .

North Nazimabad (KDA Scheme 2) is *Greenest* of the localities in Karachi even today :(

It use to be green but lately its fast turning into ‘brownest’ localities in karachi. Shara-e-Noor Jehan the road running parallel to Shara-e-Sher Shah suri in North Naimabad had many public parks and play ground earmarked on both sides of every roundabout. Now visit that road and you would find out that all the public parks and play grounds spread over many acres on that road have been converted into illegal housing schemes and allotted to MQM leaders.Only Sakhi Hasan Graveyard(which is already filled beyond capacity) is left on that road and who known maybe Altaf bai’s gang might get that ‘vacated’ from the dead too and allot plots to mqm loyalists.

The Dungar D0ct0r is really either a retard or seriously mentally challenged. His tiny brain is so obsessed with MQM that I wonder he would find MQM involvement if a newborn would get birth in his house….I really feel sorry for this guy.
Any ways coming to the topic here, totally agree with the idea of having play grounds and public parks for local community. This is something that Cowas jee is writing bout for decades but nothing seems happening here. The stakes are so immense and there is so much money involved that it’ll take real commitment & character (very rear these days) to stand against the temptation for those who are responsible to make decisions, especially in a country where accountability is nothing but a joke.
