“Yehan Say Shehr Ko Dekho”

MacharARTWe often tend to forget that the underprivileged children living bellow the poverty line in the same city as we do, deemed, uneducated and verminous creatures are equally talented and creative as any other child from the “Educated” and privileged lot, they are equally responsible citizens with great potential to shape the future of this country for a better and brighter tomorrow.

Every year The annual Machar art exhibition proves and reminds us over and again that these children, homed in one of the cities largest shanty town are sheer victims of our arrogance and ignorance, they are no less then any other of us actually even better as they are battling through their tough circumstances and yet they have the patience to politely express their emotions, dreams, stories and thoughts through art with colorful drawings, photographs and pottery.

This year again Concern for Children Trust has brought the hopes, dreams stories and thoughts of these underprivileged children of Karachi’s largest shanty town Machar colony to the privileged of the city with hope that their story might move a soul or melt down a few heart to tears and then maybe we might just break out of this shell of arrogance and embrace them as fellow citizens.

The 4th Annual Machar Art Exhibition titled “Yehan Say Shehr Ko Dekho” will be opening on the 2nd of October, 2009, 7 pm  sharp, at the Zahoor -ul- Akhlaq Gallery, Indus Valley School of art and Architecture. The Exhibition will continue till the 5th, October 2009 (Except Sunday).

i may be getting of topic here but i need to ask a question to our young photographers(not the kids of machar colonythey are awesome, i am sure), why do they always have to shoot the filthy back alleys, sewerage and all those things which makes us us looks like we are a an ugly nation, i was born and raised in Karachi and its a beautiful city but i dont know why our photographers are cannot see the better side of the city. Remotely being related to visual arts for quite some time now i think they just want to get some attention, they think by taking a semi abstract shot of a janitor they will become an artist, grow up guys! on photo sharing website it looks like we don’t take bath ever!

I completely agree with Muzz. These filthy foreigners (OK, most of them) can only show poverty. Why cannot these goras show poverty, rape, deprivation in their own countries? I sometimes feel hopeless when our own photographers continuously show poverty without ever showing anything else. So bad. And our author falls into the same trap.

you are right, one shouldn’t be thinking about these filthy disgusting poor people, we should not highlight their stupid sufferings – I mean We are nation where people who matter live way above the poverty line the rest of the lot no matter how large in number they may be are filthy idiots and a disgust to this nation and we the fools are busy highlighting this Filth ! Oh how stupid of us –

but I rather be a stupid idiot who is bent like hell to highlight these gruesome realities rather then being one of you, who for your own little ego and pride shay away from saying and excepting the truth.

The fact is that 85% of our population is living below the poverty line, You the elites, so called educated rich and fine people are just a minority, and nothing more so the pictures from this country shall not be of Imported cars, multimillion buildings, expensive houses and women sporting diamond jewelry but of these people who are raped, insulted, disgraced, treated like third grade citizens, aliens, verminous non humans on daily biases while their only demand is basic human rights that this country should be providing them.

first of all jamash i see that you are on of the teachers and thats is simply great and i really appreciate that, if i were still living in karachi i would have also volunteered.

other than that you are right, you are stupid. you mean to say if i don’t have any thing to eat and i am wearing dirty clothes… you will come to my place take my pictures, show it to the world and people will say awww geez what a poor guy lets help him out and my problems will be solved?????

brother you need to grow up, you are already on the right track by educating the kids. Thats the way to go, what i am trying to say is you guys and our bellowed media have destroyed our city’s image it looks like we are all violent and unethical people, i am not saying any thing against the people, i am criticizing the trend of photography which has been set for our upcoming talent, uncle uncle main ne dekhen na main jalle hue tyre ki tasweer khechi hai main photographer ban gaya hoon

@fasee saab…..sir kya karein majboori hai abhi hum log soney ka dumba toh bana nahein saktey na…lol
thankGod you were only doing the tax returns…I thought you or somebody in family is God forbid ill…sirf return hee file kiya ya kuch pay karney ka bhi irada hai (“burdhiya kya royalty agli generation ka lian save kardee hai…woh nahein anney wali hum yellow label pe pe kar katam ho jaein gay…lol)
I have not paid the zakat yet…this year it has become tougher than your tax return…thankGod I don’t have to do that Iam sure you know why…actually about over a year ago I receive American aid…much more than my expenses….and because of Balma jee comments I refused to accept it…the Amin invested it in the highest profit scheme and somehow handed the profit to me…now I am so confused how to calculate this years zakat….to include just the profit or the principal….or leave it altogather…and carry-on as usual…because…the American sponsors are certain that Iam crazy…and there is nothing I can do now that will change their point of view about me…lol

see Iam Back…and better….don’t desert me again like that…**== 8-X
