Mai Adakara Bann Gayee! – What A Great Show!!!

Katha theater group’s presentation of Mai Adakara Banu Gi, a fundraiser for the Rotary Club, is a FUN performance to attend. Taking place at the Karachi Arts Council until the 9th of June, the play features a cast of just two people: Sania Saeed and Ehtishamuddin. An incredibly challenging proposition to keep an audience engaged with only two people on stage over the span of 2 hours, is tough. The script demonstrated the great chemistry between both the actors and kept the audience in splits with its fantastic comic timing and simple story line. (more…)

An Ode to Tehrik

TLISM ended yesterday after a spell-bound performance of more than 2 hours of Ek Hazar Aur Ek Thi Raatein having stories depicting powerful women in Arabian Nights. The play got an awesome response with an standing ovation. After all, it is not a child’s play to perform and sing for 2 hours, remember so many lines and above all giving a perfect performance which touched everyone’s heart and enriched everybody’s mind. IT IS AN ART!

The purpose of declaring this at KMB: TLISM, a theater festival which celebrated the 30 years of Tehrik-e-Niswan’s astonishing work for women empowerment and social development in Karachi and elsewhere, and their work speaks for itself; their work is there ode to the mission, and this post is ode to the people behind the vision.

The activities continue. One of them will be a dance ballet SONG OF MOHENJODARO on 29th and 30th April marking the International Day of Dance.

Khuwabo Kay Musafir

Personally I believe that there is no joy greater than watching a well-performed live act and many would support me in this.

Past year, we have seen reasonably good growth in theater scene of Karachi. Ajoka came to Karachi after a decade, NAPA and Tehrik-e-Niswan also arranged some good plays.

This year, the theater scene will kick off with a play “Khuwabo Kay Musafir” written by Intazar Hussain, directed by renowned director Zia Mohyuddin and organized by National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA). The play is scheduled to be performed from 10th January 2009 to 20th January 2009 at Arts Council Theater Hall.

Tickets Available on 0333-2127632.
Ticket Price: Rs. 800/-

I personally think that the ticket price becomes expensive if you are a student, but you can still ask the organizers whether they are willing to provide discounts to student groups as most organizers usually offer big concessions.

Nawab Sahib Kibla at the Arts Council

Written in 1940 by Rafi Peer, Usman Peerzada brings to life the story of Nawab Sahib Kibla starring Mohammad Qavi Khan, Javaid Rizvi, Mehreen Rafi and himself for 6 days at the Arts Council. Tickets at Rs.1000 are available for purchase from Agha’s Supermarket and Copper Kettle and proceeds from the sales will go towards The Citizen’s Foundation. The show started promptly at 930pm and shockingly, just one cellphone ringtone went off, but then that was before the MC made the announcement to remind the audience of the simple etiquettes, so we can let that one go.
